Facebook Ads 101 – Gettin’ Clicks

If you are consistent with your Facebook advertising, this article isn’t for you – so keep hustlin. If you’re having trouble getting clicks and whining about impressions, this would be a good place to start. Facebook ads are common sense, and going through forum after forum it annoys me to see all the hatred for Facebook Advertising. Look, it’s not much different than anything else you’ve ever done and it’s really one of the best and most relevant places you can advertise on the internet today. You conversions should be higher than any other ad platform and your margins should be solid.

If your Facebook ads aren’t clicking you’re doing it wrong and you FAIL. 9/10  you’re either over-thinking your ads, or over targeting which wastes impressions/clicks/cash. Facebook is the place to be – Where else can you get exactly the right kind of people looking at your message without a lot of wasted impressions and clicks? I dare you to find another ad platform as relevant as Facebook.

I’m going to start you off with a few basic ideas that will help you get your campaigns off to a healthy start:

1. Read the Facebook Ad Guidelines - If you can’t follow the rules, then don’t whine about your campaigns not working. Break the rules and you will get shut off – end of story.

2. Make A List - Take the time to make a list of keywords and see if they exist. Facebook does a great job of picking up keywords users have in their profiles, and the list is always getting bigger.

3. Know Your Target – You should know that male and females are different – and I don’t just mean the p and v. They react to colors and words different, and they act differently when spending money. Split your campaigns into male and female, you’ll thank yourself later when you see the detailed metrics.

4. Make It Good OR Get Out – Don’t write junk ad copy, it doesn’t work and you’ll look like an idiot. You’ve already got two things in your favor, gender and keywords related to whatever product you’re trying to push. It’s common sense, so write copy that makes sense.

5. Lemme See Dem Pics – Make a new folder and fill it with tons and tons of pictures related to your target and your product. You may or may not be surprised that more females will click a cute puppy and guys will just ignore it, because guys like women and beer – not cute puppies.   durrrr  hurrrrr

6. Test Test Test Test Test – Take everything from above, get about 10-15 variations of ads you think might work and let the bidding begin. Experiment with CPC and CPM bids and see what works best for the number of Facebook users you’re targeting.

I didn’t say anything about age testing or splitting your targets up even more, because I want you to try and get clicks with larger keyword targeted groups. Use keywords to your advantage, that is why they exist. Try try it my way, quit whining about Facebook and go get some clicks.

Damn, I was just about to make a post like this after browsing WickedFire.

I’ll throw in a tip I had for a post on our site if you don’t mind, fellas? Combining a little bit of both step #2 and step #3: a great practice is to pull up a couple profiles on your friends list of people who might be in your target audience and thinking of some keywords based on their profile. Using their pictures might not be a good idea though if you have ugly friends…

Hey PPCPimps – does facebook allow direct links? I’ve been under the impression that you can direct link, but it becomes much harder to get approved (esp. in niches like dating/weight loss). my direct linking ads have been disapproved thus far, i’m just wondering if it’s a case of facebook being facebook, or that i just straight up am not allowed to do it.

Thank you! I would now go on this blog every day!

great post & overall blog! Keep up the good work. check us out and we can exchange links.
